Thoughts for the Day, January 12, 2026: Trust is a terrible thing to lose.

Trust is a terrible thing to lose.
In last Thursday’s blog, I talked about losing trust in the Trump White House and Trump’s team and how it was a terrible feeling not being able to trust the Office of the President/Executive Branch. It was a feeling I had last during the Nixon presidency.
I also have it currently with my favorite Attorney General, Dana Nessel. I had it with Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
What is different now is that my lack of trust is being carried over to institutions that here to for have been a rock for trust. I am losing my trust in the Justice Department, under AG Bondi. I have no trust in Homeland Security, under Kristi Noem and my trust in the FBI under the leadership of Kash Patel hasn’t been this low since the days of J. Edgar Hoover prior to him being brought under control in the early 70s.
I have no trust in the Defense Secretary Hegseth. Worst of all, my trust in the military leadership is starting to wane, with their actions in the Caribbean and in our cities. I always looked at our military as the last line of defense against a president who was drunk for power. Unfortunately, it appears that for every general or admiral who is willing to push back against Trump and Hegseth, there are other generals and admirals who are more than willing to carry out the orders of Trump and Hegseth. Of all the things I don’t like about what is going on since January 20, 2025, this is the thing that bothers me the most.
Losing trust in politicians and their cronies is one thing, losing trust in the military leadership and our institutions such as the FBI and the Department of Justice is a whole different ball game.
The Prosecution of Chairman Powell
This feels like the Flint Water Crisis criminal charges against Governor Snyder and former DHS director Nick Lyon by Michigan AG Nessel. The charges in the Flint Water Crisis should never had been filed as was proven time and time again in all three levels of the state’s judiciary. They were nothing more than a political prosecution, which the courts continually verified.
According to multiple media sources, the investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Powell is linked to a large renovation project at the central bank’s headquarters and questions over whether Powell gave misleading information to Congress about the project. The inquiry, which includes an analysis of Mr. Powell’s public statements and an examination of spending records was approved in November by Jeanine Pirro, a longtime ally of President Trump who was appointed to run the office last year. Officials’ familiar with the matter said the investigation is looking closely at Powell’s public statements, along with records showing how much money was spent on the renovations.
At this point in time, no charges have been filed against Chairman Powell. This investigation is nothing more than a political prosecution of Fed Chair Powell who refuses give-in to the demands of a president who wants Powell to lower interest rates much faster than Powell is willing to do. This is a total abuse of power by Trump and Pirro, who by the way is not legally in her position.
Trump is not the first president to complain about the actions of the Fed Chair who is not willing to give in to political pressure. However, he is the first to ever launch an investigation against a sitting Fed chairperson.
When the federal reserve was created, it was specifically created as a separate agency outside of the political influence of the party in power. Managing the economy is a complicated job that requires expertise above and beyond one person, which is why there are seven members serving 14 years. This was set up specifically to provide continuity in an ever-changing political environment.

Have you noticed that Epstein has been out of the limelight for the last week?
With all the political fireworks over the last week, have you noticed that the release of the Epstein files has taken a back seat to everything else. Is this by design? By law all the files were supposed to be released by December 19, 2025.
According to the latest reports, there are still over 1,000,000 files that have yet to be released. Why is no one being held in contempt of congress for ignoring their order?
Is this another one of Trump’s delay, delay, delay and delay some more tactics being carried out by AG Bondi? For a president who claims to be the law-and-order president, when is justice going to be provided to the victims of Epstein and his cronies?
Once again, I do not trust the motives of the president and the AG. Trust is a terrible thing to lose.

You cannot make this up.
From Mary Geddry on Friday. Just in case anyone was tempted to believe the adults were still in charge somewhere, France has quietly delayed this year’s G7 summit to avoid a scheduling conflict with the White House hosting a cage fight on Trump’s birthday. Yes, really. Emmanuel Macron’s government shifted the summit dates after Trump announced that the South Lawn would host a “big UFC fight” on June 14, Flag Day, Trump’s 80th birthday, and apparently now also Thunderdome Day. Rather than force world leaders to choose between global economic coordination and watching Dana White set up an octagon at the executive mansion, France moved the G7 back a day. Officially, Paris says the change was merely the result of “consultations with G7 partners.” Unofficially, the world’s leading democracies are rearranging their calendars around a president who thinks hosting cage fighting at the White House is statesmanship.
Trump is “so presidential”.

Da Bears!!!!!!!!!!
The Cardiac Chicago Bears did it again yesterday.
After falling behind by 18 points at half-time, I stopped watching the game, because the Bears were not playing well and head coach Ben Johnson was pulling a Dan Campbell and going for it on fourth and forever unsuccessfully when a punt or field goal try was the better call. In the first half, the Bears were 0-4 on fourth down.
I was surprised when I checked the score before going to bed, to find out the Bears scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to pull victory from what looked like a sure defeat to the Packers. It was the Bears 7th fourth quarter comeback for the year.
Packer fans must be wondering what the hell happened.

Video of the Day
Peaceful protest has been the backbone of our democracy. They started long before the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. If ever there was a video that explained the importance of peaceful protest, this is it.
Quote of the Day: “If Trump were truly the legendary deal maker he claims to be, force would be his last resort. Instead, it’s his default setting. He doesn’t negotiate; he threatens. When that fails, he escalates. Deals require recognizing that other parties have agency. This administration does not believe that, at home or abroad.” Mary Geddry in her blog on Friday.
Orchid of the Day: Da Bears
Onion of the Day: Jeanine Pirro and AG Bondi for opening an investigation into Federal Reserve Chaiman Jerome Powell which is nothing more than a political prosecution that has no merit.
Question of the Day: Do you believe the investigation into Fed. Chair Powell has merit, or is it a political prosecution as I believe?
Lyrics of the Day:
If you had just a minute to breathe
They granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance?
Or something similar to this?
Don’t worry it’s alright, it’ll happen to you
As sure as your sorrows are joys
Hint: Steve Winwood was the lead singer of the group.
Lyrics of the Day for January 8, 2026. Battle of New Orleans, by Jimmy Driftwood and originally performed by Johnny Horton
