The Weaponization Fund is not dead. $80,000 for a night at the prom. Thought for the Day, June 8, 2026
The $1.776 Billion Weaponization Fund
As I said last week, it would be foolish to think that President Trump is going to roll over and play dead on his weaponization fund.
Last week Trump did not disavow the fund, even though Todd Blanche said it was dead.
“I love it,” Mr. Trump said of the fund. “I think it’s so important.” “The weaponization fund, as far as I’m concerned, was a beautiful thing.” This is my Quote of the Day.
He continues to insist the January 6 mob that stormed the Capitol have been screwed by the government, even though 150 police officers were injured, and five people lost their lives.
Per Trump, “These are great people that were destroyed, their families have been destroyed. They went there with love.”
Trump will use the fund to reward his most loyal followers, with plenty of dollars left over for him to tap into for himself, all at the taxpayers’ expense.
The criminal enterprise is alive and well at the White House.

Quick Thoughts
· My daughter Katy and niece Kacy continue to recover nicely from their transplant surgeries. They both are pushing the envelope on their recovery activities, much to the chagrin of me and Leah.
· I attended my grandson Lex’s graduation ceremony for Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. It was an beautiful ceremony. The President of Student Council gave the commencement address and she was impressive. She bragged about how active the class of 2026 was in Pioneer extra-curricular activities. To prove her point, she asked the students to stand when she called out an activity that they participated in and to remain standing until she was done calling out activities. She mentioned, athletics, band, theater, robotics, choir, etc. When she finished, at least 95% of the students were standing. The President of Student Council was an impressive young lady.
· A special surprise occurred for one of our best friends, David and Cheryl Clifton. Their grandson, Isaiah Clifton, was given the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award for his contributions and actions during his four years at Pioneer. Isaiah had no idea he was getting the award. It was a special moment for the Clifton family. Isaiah gets my Orchid of the Day
· David Clifton and I ran the Saturday Morning Basketball Clinic in Ypsilanti for 20 years. Our families have a special relationship with each other. We have attended many family events together such as Sunday when we attended Isaiah’s graduation party. David, who is black, loves to introduce me to his friends and relatives as his kids’ Uncle Tom, much to the embarrassment of our wives. Sunday was no exception. The looks on his relatives’ and friends’ faces are priceless. If only everyone could get along with each other the way our two families do.
· Last week, I was forwarded a text message which identified the worst Detroit suburbs to live in 2026. In reverse order they were 5. Ecorse, 4. Inkster, 3. Highland Park, 2. Pontiac, and number one, my hometown, River Rouge. As I look at this list, I think back at my time growing up in River Rouge in the 50s and 60s and my guess, it would have been the same list back then however, in slightly different order. These five cities, despite the poverty and high crime, have produced many wonderful people who have been highly successful in all walks of life. Many of us from the River Rouge High School Class of 1969, will be attending a 75th birthday party in July, celebrating 2026 as the year we all turn 75. We had a class that was undefeated in football and was state champions in basketball. We had the Willie Heston Award Winner as the outstanding scholar athlete in the state. An incredible number of us went on to have highly successful professional or technical careers. Most importantly, we had good and caring people who I look forward to spending a memorable night with talking about growing up in River Rouge. I have said this many times, growing up in River Rouge and attending River Rouge High School was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me. Kids growing up in River Rouge developed “street smarts” which helped them immensely in their adult lives.
· As Jake Roger’s said in August 2024, “Don’t let the Tigers get hot!”. May was miserable for the Tigers, the worst month in history, but June is starting off great. The Tigers have dug a deep hole that they will need to climb out from, but there is plenty of time to do so. With over 95 games left they are not out of it. If they can keep winning series, they will back in the division and wild-card race in no time.
· The Wall Street Journal had an article this weekend that turned my stomach. It told the story of elite high school athletes who early enrolled in the college they will be attending to play sports. By foregoing their last semester of high school and enrolling early in college, the athletes are able to collect whatever NIL money the university agreed to pay the incoming freshman, which is some cases is more than $1 million per year. These student athletes, with wads of money, are returning to their high schools to attend their senior proms. In the WSJ article, they identified athletes who are spending upwards of $80,000 to attend their senior prom, by buying Rolex watches, designer clothes, personal concierges and renting luxury automobiles including Bentleys. I stopped reading the article, when I read about the parents who thought what their kids were doing was great. There is an Onion of the Day in there somewhere. I am not sure if it goes to the universities, the students, the parents, or all three.
